As reported by various local news outlets last month. Auditoria Services are in the process of installing brand new Theatre Seating within Rotherham Civic Theatre. Replacing the previous chairs which have seen over a century of combined service between the Civic Theatre and the Regent Theatre. Where they were located up until its demolition in 1957. Despite the theatre seating being such an iconic part of the Civic’s history. Customer feedback regarding the chairs eventually influenced the theatre to have them removed.
Manager at Rotherham Theatres, Mark Scott, commented: “Over the years we’ve had many performers comment on how beautiful and striking the theatre seating looks when seen from the stage. However, customers did find them cramped and uncomfortable, and many had become defective. So, swayed by public opinion, we have decided it is time for new theatre seating to be installed.
The Designed Seating
“We have trialled a version of the new seat with customers since Easter and after positive feedback we have now agreed on the final chair design. Which will give great comfort and hopefully pinch a bit more legroom.”
As a local specialist, Auditoria are pleased to have been chosen as the providers of the new Rotherham Civic Theatre seating. And the installation is on course to be completed by early October. For those who might be interested in obtaining one of the old chairs. The majority are to be sold by local Rotherham auctioneers, Paul Beighton.
