Theatre Seating FAQs
As a UK theatre seating manufacturer we regularly get asked questions about the different types of seating we offer. Questions on sizes, fabrics, room dimensions and more. We understand selecting the best seating for your venue can be difficult so we have selected a few of our most frequently asked questions to help make your decision easier.
What size of theatre seating is available?
The size of your theatre seating depends on many factors, including where it is used, if it has arms, and how much space you have. Since all our products are designed to specifications, we have no standard seat sizes. Incremental-sized seats are not used; space between aisles is maximised to give the most generous seat space possible. As a guide, theatre seating without arms should be no less than 450mm, and chairs with arms no less than 490mm.
Can chair types be tailored to suit?
Our theatre seating can be fitted in a variety of ways – floor-fixed, riser-fixed, portable, removable (to allow for provision of wheelchair-bound patrons) and even ‘memory swivel’ chairs can be used in balcony slip areas to create the perfect sightline and still meet guidelines in terms of means of escape. We can provide details on how to get the very best from your space using various types of theatre seating.
Are all chairs the same angle?
The angle of the chair back can be tailored to suit a specific application. For example, theatre seating in the stalls area might require a more laid-back angle, whereas in a circle or upper balcony level you would likely have something more upright.
Are different back heights available?
As a theatre seating manufacturer who provides bespoke designs, we can supply high-back chairs or variations on any size; a higher back is often favoured in upper balcony areas when riser heights are at the highest to maintain best sight lines.
What finishes are available?
We have a selection of standard offerings, but we have used a range of suppliers from all across the globe, so you won’t be limited by choice.
Seating fabric
Our fabric comes from a standard range, with no restrictions on colour choice. We have often used multi-colour layouts to create an interesting seating unit. Feel free to contact us and our in-house design department will mock up a drawing.
Arms
Theatre seating arms can be upholstered to match main body of the seat and can be provided in solid timber or plastic. Our in-house woodworking shop can provide a bespoke finish and shape if required.
Outside backs / under-seat bottoms
In most instances, these are upholstered to match the main body of the theatre seat. We can provide timber panels to create a specific look or feel. We can also provide perforated under-seat panels to assist with acoustic properties.
Metalwork
All metalwork is powder-coated in-house to RAL 7016 anthracite grey or RAL 9005 black as standard. We are always happy to use a specially selected RAL colour to match your building’s colour scheme.
