Lecture theatres and their seating are becoming the forefront of higher education budgets allocation. Every university and college across the country battles each academic year to pull in students from across the country. To do this they have to ensure their offering is up to scratch.
From luxury accommodation on campus to ground breaking lecture theatres. Upgrading the student experience is now a vital part of attracting an influx of students. Who have expectations higher than any generation before them. Students strive for modern buildings with vibrant colours and designs mixed between an array of technology befitting of their generation.
Fixed Lecture Seating & Student Experience
The connection between improving the student experience and the design of your lecture theatre depends largely on the building, the space available and the purpose of the room.
Multi-purpose spaces are generally better served by retractable lecture theatre seating, enabling the rows to be retracted and the floor opened for a range of other activities. If the room is available we normally find fixed lecture theatre seating to be the best option for a number of reasons.
1. Use The Space
Fixed lecture seating allows for maximum usage of the space you have available. Each row of seating is uniform in height, depth and row spacing creating a platform to create a design best using your space. By using our experienced design techniques we create a bespoke layout of seating to limit waste and maximise audience capacity.
2. Low Maintenance
One of the biggest advantages of fixed seating in lecture theatres, is the lack of maintenance needed. Unlike retractable units, fixed seating has no mechanical parts for the required movement in and out of position. Our experienced team of installers simply erect a platform base and the foundations of your new lecture hall seating are now in place. By removing mechanical elements, there is no need for regular servicing. Or replacement of parts over the lifetime of the design.
3. Additional Features
Fixed-tier seating also gives the option of adding far more features than other types of seating. Adding to the student experience in this way is one of the best ways to add value. Students desire attractive lecture theatres with high-tech features from a modern university. The ability to add power sockets to fixed writing desks for laptops and tablets adds a new dimension which has become expected by the modern-day student.
We added these and interactive ability into a fixed lecture theatre at Sheffield Hallam University to advance the offering in their new Charles St Building.
