As the basketball season draws to a close, it seems like a good time to reflect on our largest retractable arena seating installation at the Eagles Community Arena. This will not only serve the professional basketball team, but also the wider community.
Retractable Arena Seating
In the middle of November 2018, almost one year on from the start of the building work. Our retractable seating systems were ready to be installed and were one of the last items to be installed in the building. Working closely with the client, contractor and design team at all stages. We designed, manufactured and installed the unique reverse close retractable units to go into the arena. At the request of the club, altered the side of the units to create more of a bowl layout, helping to maximise attendance on matchdays whilst also ensuring exits were not blocked.
This resulted in us producing 2,595 RS1 chairs of the 2,800 total seats in the arena. Which is the largest retractable project we have ever built in our 40 years as a limited company.
Eagles Community Arena
The purpose-built arena is the new home of the Eagles Community Foundation, an organization aiming to grow the levels of basketball participation in the local and surrounding area.
The arena will also become the home of the Newcastle Eagles. Who are the most successful franchise in British basketball history. Winning the British Basketball League (BBL) 7 times, the BBL trophy 6 times, and the BBL cup 5 times.
The stadium hosted its first professional game on 11th January 2019, when the Eagles hosted Plymouth Raiders. It was sold out for the first three games that it hosted. As people flocked to see the Eagles new home. The facility will be open to the public for 362 days a year and staging up to 40 annual events, including at least 22 Newcastle Eagles home fixtures. The Newcastle Eagles website states that the “new facility will cater for grassroots initiatives for all ages and abilities. From pre-school community programmes to senior European club competitions and Great Britain international events”
